Carlos Acevedo-Rocha
DTU BRIGHT The Novo Nordisk Foundation Biotechnology Research Institute Novo Nordisk
Carlos leads the Computational Protein Engineering group at DTU BRIGHT, combining experimental and computational approaches to understand and accelerate protein/enzyme engineering/design and develop more sustainable bioprocesses to produce chemicals, medicines and biomaterials. Previously, he worked at the Danish biotech company Biosyntia where he co-developed the world-first processes to produce B vitamins using renewable feedstocks instead of fossil fuels. He took a postdoctoral position with Manfred Reetz, a pioneer in protein directed evolution and biocatalysis Marburg University, Germany. He did his PhD in biotechnology in genetic code expansion with Ned Budisa at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Germany.
Seminars
- Understand how accessible AI-driven platforms are enabling faster and more efficient enzyme optimization without extensive coding expertise
- Explore strategies for combining sequence-based, structure-based, and coevolutionary models to improve multiple enzyme properties like expression, activity, and stability
- Learn how computationally guided workflows are reducing screening burden and accelerating biocatalyst development for scalable manufacturing applications
