Director, Microbial Process Operations Merck & Co

Emily Greenhagen is Director of Microbial Process Operations at Merck, where she leads teams advancing microbial process development, fermentation operations, and enzyme manufacturing to support pharmaceutical innovation. With nearly 20 years of experience in industrial biotechnology, she has driven the development, scale-up, and commercialization of microbial production processes across a range of organisms and applications. Prior to Merck, Emily held leadership roles at Ginkgo Bioworks, where she helped advance multiple products to commercial manufacturing, and previously worked in strain engineering and fermentation development at Microbia, Qteros, and Novogy. Emily holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from MIT.
